![]() By March 18, 2019, eight 22-minute episodes had been funded. The subsequent episodes would adapt the Briarwoods' arc, also from the Vox Machina campaign. The first two episodes would cover the pre-stream story arc. With four 22-minute episodes funded in the first 24 hours, additional stretch goals were added, expanding the project into an animated series. At the end of the first full day, all of the announced stretch goals had been unlocked, and the total had reached more than $4.3 million. Within an hour of launch, however, the Kickstarter had reached more than $1,000,000. Not knowing how long this would take to raise, the campaign length was set at 45 days. The cast projected a cost of US$750,000 for a single 22-minute animated short, fulfilling the other campaign rewards, and the fees associated with a crowdfunding campaign. The animated story was to be set just before the streaming portion of the campaign started-when the players were around level seven-during a time when, canonically, there is an in-game period of roughly six months when the members of Vox Machina were not all together at the same time. The issue was delayed to November 3, 2021.On March 4, 2019, the Critical Role cast launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for a 22-minute animation called Critical Role: The Legend of Vox Machina Animated Special. Due to the 2021–2022 global supply chain crisis and unidentified circumstances with creative teams, all Critical Role titles were delayed multiple times. The comic was originally scheduled for publication by Dark Horse Comics on August 11, 2021. Vex'ahlia tells the crowd that Vox Machina will find proof that Errevon is involved and out a stop to this. When Percival stops Atrix to tell him they suspect agents of Errevon are to blame, the people of Westruun laugh and dismiss Errevon as children's stories. Vox Machina speculates that Eskil was framed and worries that whoever did so will continue to cause trouble. Eskil accuses Atrix of causing that magic that triggered this. Margrave Atrix accuses Realmseer Eskil Ryndarien of causing the mass freezing, citing that he was told the egg was a gift from Eskil. Vex'ahlia reunites with Vax'ildan and Trinket. In Westruun, everyone is unfrozen and confused. He decides this is a problem for later and follows the group home. Percival drops his gun The List on top of the heart, enchanting it. Grog grabs his shoulder to inform him the group is leaving. As the group debates how to proceed, Percival examines Skysunder's heart. Vex'ahlia opens a portal herself, but the group is unsure if it leads back to Westruun. With Skysunder grounded, Vox Machina kills her and she explodes into ice shards.Īmong the dragon's icy remains, Vex'ahlia finds the jewel she used to open a portal between Exandria and the Frostfell. Keyleth deflects the attack with her magic and slams Skysunder into a glacier wall. ![]() Vex'ahlia taunts her, prompting Skysunder to attack them with her frost breath. Skysunder angrily denounces them as an insignificant meal. Grog jumps to hit her with his axe, but he comes short and falls back onto the ice. She illuminates Skysunder's location in the sky, allowing Vex'ahlia and Percival to shoot her. As Grog Strongjaw and Scanlan Shorthalt fail to entice Skysunder into revealing herself, Pike Trickfoot asks the Everlight for aid in finding Skysunder. Unseen, Skysunder attacks and taunts them. Skysunder kicks up an ice storm with her wings, and Vox Machina loses sight of her. ![]() Percival de Rolo adds she also froze the rest of Westruun. Vex'ahlia corrects him: it started when Skysunder froze Vax'ildan. ![]() He points out that Skysunder antagonized them first by threatening to eat Vox Machina. Scanlan Shorthalt says that " Skysunder, the Herald of the Rimelord" sounds pretentious, and Keyleth advises him to stop antagonizing a dragon.
